Abstract

The article delves into the plagiarism by Franciscan missionary Louis Hennepin to make a name for himself and his books of disinformation to diminish the stature of Robert Cavelier, Sieur de La Salle, and to encourage King William III of England to colonize the Mississippi Valley. Topics discussed include Hennepin's narratives about Jesuits, his English propaganda and false claims against La Salle, and his fabrications about the mapping of the Mississippi River and expedition to North America.
