Abstract

The article discusses the impact of import tariffs imposed by the Trump administration on the international trade of antiques and decorative arts. These tariffs, particularly a 25% duty on upholstered furniture and related products, have created significant challenges for U.S. dealers, such as Millicent Ford Creech and Steven J. Chait, who face increased costs and competitive disadvantages when purchasing items from abroad. The tariffs have disrupted the market, pushing sales out of the U.S. and affecting European dealers participating in U.S. art fairs. The constitutionality of these tariffs is being challenged in the Supreme Court, with implications for the future of the art and antiques trade. [Extracted from the article]
