Abstract
The Battle of Chancellorsville, which occurred in April and May of 1863 during the American Civil War, was a significant conflict between the Union and Confederate forces in Northern Virginia. Led by General Joseph Hooker, the Union Army aimed to defeat General Robert E. Lee's Army of Northern Virginia. However, Hooker's flawed strategy allowed Lee to divide his forces and launch a successful attack on the Union troops. Despite initial success, the Union forces ultimately retreated, resulting in a Confederate victory. The battle had a profound impact on both sides and was considered pivotal to the outcome of the war. [Extracted from the article]
