Abstract
This article from Canada's History provides a brief overview of some of the historic aircraft flown by Canadians in service of their country. It highlights the Sopwith Camel, which was the most successful fighter of the First World War and was flown by notable Canadian aces such as Donald MacLaren and William Barker. The Vickers Vedette, the first commercially produced aircraft designed and manufactured entirely in Canada, is also mentioned. The article discusses the Hawker Hurricane, which played a critical role during the Battle of Britain and was produced in Canada by Canadian Car and Foundry. The F-86 Sabre, which served as a modern fighter for the RCAF during the early Cold War, and the CF-100 Canuck, Canada's only combat aircraft entirely designed and built in the country, are also featured.
