Abstract

The article provides live reviews of recent opera productions across Europe, focusing on their artistic interpretations and performances. It critiques a staging of Handel’s *Semele* for its uneven dramatic tone and character portrayals, highlighting specific singers’ contributions and directorial choices. The Opéra de Paris’s production of Rameau’s *Castor et Pollux*, directed by Peter Sellars, is noted for its contemporary setting and innovative choreography blending hip hop and classical elements, supported by precise conducting and strong vocal performances. Theater Magdeburg’s German premiere of Gerald Barry’s *Salome* is described as a sharply stylized, absurdist reinterpretation with a multilingual libretto and intense vocal demands, praised for its energetic cast and disciplined orchestra. Finally, the Royal Danish Opera’s staging of Wagner’s *Die Meistersinger von Nürnberg* is commended for its theatrical vitality, Scandinavian cast, and a warm, humanizing portrayal of the central character Sachs, emphasizing themes of love and artistic renewal.
