Abstract
The article reflects on the lives and writing of Muriel Spark and Katherine Mansfield, using moments of dislocation and travel to explore how their "poetry in prose" emerges from in-between states of belonging and identity. Topics include literary displacement and travel as creative forces, the difficulty of placing women writers within fixed national or cultural identities, and how ambiguity and doubleness shape modernist prose.
