Abstract
The article discusses the recent surge in scholarly interest in the Brezhnev era of Soviet history. Historians, as well as scholars from other disciplines such as literature, film, anthropology, and sociology, are increasingly focusing on this period. The article highlights the influence of Alexei Yurchak's book, "Everything Was Forever, Until It Was No More," which explores the collapse of the Soviet Union. The new scholarship on the Brezhnev era is characterized by its heterogeneity, global orientation, and focus on regions outside of Russia. The article also raises questions about the future direction of Soviet history as the field moves towards studying more recent periods. [Extracted from the article]
