Abstract

This article reviews two books that explore how Tudor and Stuart England in the 16th and 17th centuries was shaped by global encounters, challenging traditional views of English identity and culture. Nandini Das' *This Little World* examines diverse individuals—immigrants, travelers, and women—whose lives reveal England's porous national boundaries and cultural hybridity. Lauren Working's *A Golden World* focuses on the cultural impact of the Americas on England, particularly London, through the movement of plants, animals, luxury goods, and indigenous influences, highlighting the often overlooked contributions of non-European peoples. Both works argue for a more interconnected understanding of early modern England, emphasizing the complex exchanges that shaped its society beyond insular narratives.
