Abstract

A report from the North China University of Technology challenges the interpretation of philosopher Jeremy Bentham's utilitarianism theory. The research argues that Bentham did consider his psychological theory as part of his utilitarianism, and that he believed self-preference and artificial means could contribute to the greatest happiness. The study concludes that previous interpretations of Bentham's work, such as that of philosopher Henry Sidgwick, failed to fully understand the complexity of Bentham's logic. The research has been peer-reviewed and can be accessed through Theoria journal. [Extracted from the article]
