Abstract

The article discusses the historical use of the term "Filastın/Palestine" in early modern Arabic sources between the Ottoman conquest in 1517 and the 1798 Napoleonic invasion. Topics include the anachronistic search for "Palestine" in early modern texts, the synecdochical naming of regions in Arabic geographical tradition, and the absence of distinct borders in the Ottoman territories.
