Abstract

This article focuses on a methodological proposal based on Paulo Freire's Thematic Investigation (TI) for developing participatory health education (HE) and health promotion (HP) practices with adolescents. TI is presented as a five-stage dialogical process that centers adolescents' perspectives to define educational content, critically analyze their lived realities—including social determinants of health—and collaboratively plan health interventions. The approach challenges adult-centric models by validating adolescents as active subjects in their health education, fostering critical reflection, empowerment, and the co-creation of feasible solutions to individual and collective health issues. The article emphasizes that effective adolescent health promotion requires inclusive dialogue involving not only youth but also adults responsible for their care, aiming to transform oppressive social conditions and uphold adolescents' rights to health and well-being.
