Abstract

This article evaluates women's adherence to low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) for venous thromboembolism (VTE) prophylaxis after cesarean section (CS) in the Gaza Strip, focusing on prescription patterns, communication, and barriers to adherence. Among 281 women studied, only 51.95% fully adhered to LMWH prophylaxis, with inadequate adherence primarily linked to poor communication about injection technique and side effects, as well as high medication costs. Although VTE risk assessment and prescribing practices were generally appropriate, nearly half of the women lacked sufficient education on LMWH use, and economic challenges further hindered adherence. The study highlights the need for improved patient counseling and financial support to enhance VTE prevention in this setting.
