Abstract
The article reviews two recent works on the American Revolution, highlighting their fresh perspectives as the United States nears its 250th anniversary. Ken Burns's six-episode film emphasizes the Revolution as a civil war that divided not only Patriots and Loyalists but also enslavers and the enslaved, as well as colonists and Native Americans, whose varied motivations are explored. Richard Bell's book frames the Revolution as a global conflict involving European powers like France, the Netherlands, and Spain, whose military and financial support was crucial, while also detailing the broader geopolitical consequences. Both works focus on the experiences of marginalized groups and underscore the Revolution's complex and far-reaching impact. [Extracted from the article]
