Abstract
Ivory Coast's decision to increase cocoa farmgate prices by 50% to 1500 CFA francs kg/ $2.47 has been hailed as a historic landmark by the industry. This move comes in response to major spikes in global cocoa prices, which have reached $10,000 a tonne on the Futures commodities markets in New York. Factors such as supply deficits, poor harvests, adverse weather, and crop disease have contributed to the elevated costs. The increase in farmgate prices is expected to address the pressures faced by financially strained farmers and bring them closer to a living income. [Extracted from the article]
