Abstract

Medha Patkar, a leader of the Narmada Bachao Andolan (NBA), has initiated a "jal satyagraha" in Madhya Pradesh's Barwani district, alleging that the backwaters from the Sardar Sarovar Dam have entered villages due to an illegal increase in the water level. Patkar claims that thousands of houses have been destroyed and farmlands submerged without proper land acquisition and rehabilitation.
