Abstract

The UN Refugee Agency (UNHCR) has called for assistance in supporting approximately 185,000 Sudanese refugees who have fled to Chad to escape dangerous conditions at the border. The refugees are facing challenges due to expected rains, which have left them without suitable shelter and have impeded humanitarian access. In Ethiopia, concerns have been raised about the living conditions of Sudanese refugees who fled their camps and are now living on a roadside, protesting insecurity and lack of basic services. Uganda's open-door policy for refugees is under strain from recent arrivals, putting pressure on protection and assistance services. The country hosts the highest number of refugees in Africa but is facing funding shortfalls, impacting health and education services. Other news includes the return of Liberian refugees from Ghana, the dire situation in a camp for displaced people in Sudan, and various cooperation agreements signed between countries in Africa.
