Abstract
The article describes how Seattle became the origin point for a mass deportation campaign against alien radicals and labor activists, particularly the Industrial Workers of the World, during World War I. Topics include the collaboration between employers and federal authorities to crush strikes, the legal and extralegal methods used to justify deportations; and the role of anti-immigrant hysteria in suppressing the labor movement.
