Abstract
The article informs that 1930s marked a significant period for the British timber industry, with the establishment of the Timber Development Association (TDA) in 1934 and the appointment of John Gloag as its public affairs director in 1936. Gloag's role was to promote "wood consciousness" by advertising the use of timber and stimulating a market for wood products. The TDA's campaign included a design competition for timber houses judged by Walter Gropius.
