Abstract

The article focuses on the Yom Kippur War of 1973, a conflict between Israel and an Arab coalition led by Egypt and Syria that significantly altered the Middle Eastern geopolitical landscape and triggered an international energy crisis. The war began with a surprise two-front attack by Egypt and Syria on Yom Kippur, Judaism's holiest day, aiming to reclaim territories lost to Israel during the 1967 Six-Day War. Key battles included Operation Badr, the Battle of the Sinai, and the Valley of Tears, with significant military engagements on land and sea. The conflict ended with a United Nations-brokered ceasefire, followed by peace negotiations culminating in the 1979 Egypt-Israel Peace Treaty and the Camp David Accords, which established frameworks for lasting peace between the two nations. The war also prompted an Arab oil embargo against Western countries, leading to the 1973 Oil Crisis.
