Abstract

A recent study conducted by Johns Hopkins University focused on the mental health and well-being of American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) adolescents. The research aimed to explore the relationship between cultural connection and markers of mental health in this population. The study involved surveys and interviews with 122 AI/AN youth from the Lumbee Tribe of North Carolina. The findings indicated that these adolescents had a moderate-strong connection with their Native culture, as evidenced by their ethnic identity and tribal affiliation. The research suggests that the data collected could inform policies and programs aimed at addressing mental health disparities among AI/AN youth. [Extracted from the article]
