Abstract
The article focuses on *Rising Waters*, a cooperative board game designed by Scout Blum to educate players about the Black experience during the 1926–27 Mississippi River floods. Inspired by the "Reacting to the Past" pedagogical framework, the game immerses players in historical challenges involving racial oppression and community resistance, using detailed components and period-appropriate artistic design. While the game offers rich educational potential and includes a comprehensive curriculum guide, its complexity, lengthy setup, high cost, and steep learning curve limit its practicality for larger or less specialized classrooms. Feedback from academic testing highlights its thematic depth but suggests a need for clearer integration of historical events with gameplay mechanics to enhance understanding.
