Abstract
The article focuses on the connection between the world's oldest mummified person, discovered in Spirit Cave, and the Northern Paiute people of Nevada. Archaeological findings and genetic testing have established that the mummified remains, known as "the Storyteller," are over 10,700 years old and genetically linked to modern Northern Paiute individuals, confirming their long-standing presence in the Lahontan Basin. This research challenges previous assumptions about population migrations in the region and highlights the importance of integrating Indigenous oral histories with archaeological evidence to understand the continuous cultural lineage of the Northern Paiute. The collaboration between tribal members and archaeologists aims to reshape the narrative of the area's ancient inhabitants and their enduring connection to the land. [Extracted from the article]
