Abstract

The author shares why she calls herself Affrilachian. She remembers calling herself a womanist during a job interview for a Black feminist professorship and she wonders how author Toni Cade Bambara reconciled being a feminist with being a Black nationalist. She considers herself an Affrilachian poet in deference to the storytellers who named her.
