Abstract
This article focuses on the true crime story behind Ryan Murphy's Netflix series *Monster: The Ed Gein Story*, which portrays the notorious 1950s serial killer Ed Gein from Plainfield, Wisconsin. Gein, influenced by a troubled upbringing under a domineering mother, committed murders and grave robberies, collecting human remains as keepsakes rather than for cannibalistic or necrophilic purposes. Diagnosed with schizophrenia, Gein pled not guilty by reason of insanity and spent the remainder of his life in psychiatric hospitals until his death in 1984. The article also notes that Gein's crimes have inspired several earlier Hollywood productions.
