Abstract
The article focuses on the current challenges to the Simla Agreement, signed in 1972 between India and Pakistan to promote peaceful resolution of disputes, especially over Jammu and Kashmir, through bilateral negotiations respecting the Line of Control (LoC). It highlights Pakistan's concerns over India's alleged violations of the agreement, including unilateral changes to Jammu and Kashmir's status in 2019 and recent incidents like the Pahalgam attack, which Pakistan denies involvement in and has called for neutral international investigation. The piece argues that Pakistan’s potential reconsideration of the Simla Agreement aims to open space for international mediation amid ongoing tensions, while portraying India’s actions as aggressive and destabilizing to regional peace. It concludes with a call for the international community to engage impartially to prevent further conflict in South Asia.
