Abstract

Taiwan's ruling party, the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), is experiencing a narrowing lead in the upcoming presidential election. According to a survey by online news outlet My Formosa, DPP candidate Lai Ching-te has the support of 35% of respondents, slightly ahead of Kuomintang candidate Hou Yu-ih at 31.7%. The Taiwan People's Party nominee, Ko Wen-je, is in third place with 18.2%. Another poll by United Daily News shows a tie between Hou and Lai at 31%, with Ko at 21%. The election, scheduled for January 13, 2024, will have significant implications for US-China relations and Beijing's goal of bringing Taiwan under its control. [Extracted from the article]
