Abstract
The bicentennial of Marquis de Lafayette's national tour will be commemorated with events organized by the American Friends of Lafayette (AFL) starting in August 2024. The celebration will follow the exact route of Lafayette's journey through 24 states over the course of a year. Highlights of the celebration include a ticker-tape parade in New York City, visits to historical sites such as Mount Vernon and Monticello, and a celebration in Fayetteville, North Carolina, the only city named after Lafayette that he visited. The AFL aims to celebrate Lafayette's commitment to human rights and the Franco-American Alliance, emphasizing the importance of connecting the past to the present. The festivities will conclude with a boat sailing down the Potomac River, mirroring Lafayette's journey back to France. The American Friends of Lafayette is a non-political society dedicated to studying Lafayette's life and times in America and France. [Extracted from the article]
