Abstract
This article reviews *The Comintern and the Global South: Global Designs/Local Encounters*, a collection of essays examining the Communist International's (Comintern) interactions with radical movements in the Global South. The volume is organized into two parts: "Global Designs," which explores the theoretical foundations of communist internationalism and its engagement with race and colonialism, and "Local Encounters," which focuses on specific historical actors and regions, such as India, Mexico, and the Caribbean, illustrating how Comintern directives were adapted in local contexts. The essays highlight the complex, non-monolithic reception of Communism in the Global South and its role as an anti-colonial network, while also addressing methodological challenges in linking Marxism, Communism, and postcolonial scholarship. The work contributes to non-Eurocentric historiography of twentieth-century radicalism and internationalism.
