Abstract
The article focuses on the concept of microaggressions and explores the use of irony as a response to such subtle insults, particularly through the lens of the 17th-century philosopher Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz. It defines microaggressions as commonplace actions that convey demeaning messages to marginalized individuals and discusses the psychological and philosophical responses to them. The authors analyze Sor Juana's experiences with gender-based microaggressions and her strategic use of irony to address these slights, highlighting both the advantages and limitations of employing irony in such contexts. Ultimately, the article aims to enhance understanding of the complexities involved in responding to microaggressions and the relevance of Sor Juana's work in contemporary discussions.
