Abstract

A new archaeological dig is set to take place this summer in Stirling, Scotland, in search of a "lost" Roman fort. The Roman empire made several attempts to conquer Scotland but failed to hold onto the territory due to political and economic reasons. The focus of Scottish Roman studies has traditionally been on roads and forts, but there is evidence to suggest the involvement of the navy as well. The possible fort at Manor Powis in Stirling was mentioned in historical accounts and maps, but its existence and condition remain uncertain. An invitation is extended to anyone interested in joining the dig to uncover more about Stirling's lost Roman fort. [Extracted from the article]
