Abstract
The article discusses Australia's historical and contemporary considerations regarding nuclear weapons, particularly in light of regional security dynamics. Initially, plans for a nuclear reactor in Jervis Bay were shelved after the signing of the Treaty on the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons in the early 1970s. However, current geopolitical tensions, including China's military rise and concerns about U.S. reliability, are prompting countries like Japan and South Korea to reconsider their nuclear policies. The article suggests that Australia must now reassess its own security strategies and the implications of potential nuclear proliferation in the Asia-Pacific region. [Extracted from the article]
