Abstract
This article examines how New Nollywood films promote and preserve Nigerian cultures through language use, focusing on the case study of *The Wedding Party 2*. It highlights a significant increase in English-language productions alongside a marked decline in films made in Indigenous Nigerian languages such as Yoruba, Igbo, and Hausa, raising concerns about cultural and linguistic representation. The study discusses linguistic strategies like translanguaging and code-switching in New Nollywood cinema, illustrating how these films negotiate cultural identity and commercial appeal, with *The Wedding Party 2* exemplifying a predominance of English interspersed with selective use of Indigenous languages primarily for cultural emphasis. The article concludes that while New Nollywood films contribute to cultural visibility, greater support and nuanced language inclusion are needed to effectively preserve Nigeria’s rich linguistic heritage within the evolving film industry.
