Abstract
Finally, it is regrettable that the author does not extend his story beyond 1870, because the sinking of the HMS I Captain i does not conclude the story of the naval arms race during this period, which lasted nearly twenty years concerning battleships. Turret versus Broadside: An Anatomy of British Naval Prestige, Revolution and Disaster, 1860-1870 by Howard J. Fuller (review) In the end, Coles obtained permission from the Admiralty to design a battleship combining powerful turrets and a very large rig that dangerously elevated the ship's center of gravity.
