Abstract

The article focuses on a study investigating methods to help adults accurately report the intensity of tactile sensations using numerical rating scales. Conducted by researchers from the Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Florida, the study involved participants who rated sensations of roughness, heaviness, and temperature while their hands were placed in a concealed stimulus box. The findings indicated that participants successfully learned to articulate the intensity of these sensations and were able to generalize this skill to new body parts and stimuli. The research contributes to the understanding of how individuals learn to communicate about private experiences, in line with Skinner's analysis of verbal behavior. [Extracted from the article]
