Abstract
The article discusses the iconic American painting "American Gothic" by Grant Wood. The painting features a male and female model, with the male model being Dr. Byron H. McKeeby, a dentist. Wood offered few details about the painting, adding to its mystery. McKeeby initially turned down Wood's offer to be the model but eventually agreed, with the promise that his features would be exaggerated to keep his identity hidden. The painting became immensely popular, and McKeeby denied being the man in the painting for five years before finally admitting it. The article also addresses misconceptions about the painting and its subjects. [Extracted from the article]
