Abstract
This article examines the intersection of spiralism and magical realism in Frankétienne's Dézafi and Les Affres d'un défi , addressing a critical gap in the scholarship: to date, no study has identified the features these novels share with the tradition of magical realism. Drawing on Alejo Carpentier's influential theorization of the marvelous real, which also shaped the aesthetic vision of Jacques Stephen Alexis, the analysis reveals how Frankétienne's texts incorporate elements characteristic of this literary mode. This study conceptualizes spiralism and magical realism as overlapping structures, akin to concentric circles. Grounded on the premise that aesthetic movements do not operate in isolation, this article situates Frankétienne's work within broader, transnational literary contexts. [ABSTRACT FROM AUTHOR]
