Abstract

The article focuses on applying Blaise Pascal's wager to the contemporary challenge of preparing for the transformative impact of artificial intelligence (AI). It argues that, given mounting evidence that AI could radically alter work, education, and society within a few years, the rational choice is to prepare for this change. Preparing involves reforming education to emphasize creativity and judgment, adapting labor markets, and addressing legal, ethical, and social implications of AI integration. The potential costs of preparation are modest compared to the risks of unpreparedness, which include mass unemployment, institutional obsolescence, and social disruption. The article emphasizes the urgency of proactive adaptation to AI's arrival rather than skepticism or delay.
