Abstract

The article focuses on the release of two archival recordings of jazz multi-instrumentalist Roland Kirk by Resonance Records, commemorating the 69th anniversary of his first record and his posthumous 90th birthday. The recordings, titled "Vibrations in the Village: Live at the Village Gate" and "Seek & Listen: Live at the Penthouse," capture performances from 1963 and 1967, respectively, showcasing Kirk's exceptional talent on various instruments, including tenor saxophone, flute, and oboe. The Village Gate set features a more eclectic setlist and better sound quality, while the Penthouse recordings highlight Kirk's buoyant style with strong band support. Both releases aim to reappraise Kirk's significant contributions to jazz following his death in 1977. [Extracted from the article]
