Abstract

The article examines the work of nineteenth-century historian Thomas Arnold to analyze the significance of his work "History of Rome". Topics discussed include analogies between the constitution of the Roman Republic and the English state, historical studies of the Roman republic between 1799 and 1902 and Arnold's participation in the Romantic movement.
