Abstract

Furthermore, Orozco ignores the fact that Perales was a light-skinned Mexican American, and although he may have embraced I La Raza i , he ascended into the middle-class because of his privileged connection to whiteness, not just because of his ability to work hard for an education. Chicana/o historians have either ignored or denigrated the work of Alonso S. Perales, who was not only the founder of LULAC, but also a lawyer, public intellectual, Pan-American ideologue, and a United States diplomat. [Extracted from the article]
