Abstract
This article systematically reviews how human resource development (HRD) research has engaged with race consciousness and Indigeneity, focusing on the racialization of Black, Indigenous, and other People of Color (BIPOC). Analyzing 53 peer-reviewed articles from six HRD journals between 2013 and 2024, the study identifies leadership as the most prevalent theme, with increasing attention to higher education and social justice issues. It highlights disparities in publication patterns across journals, the predominance of qualitative methods, and the use of critical frameworks such as critical race theory and intersectionality. The authors recommend enhancing the visibility of critical race and Indigenous scholarship in HRD graduate education, expanding theory-building efforts, and applying greater criticality to Indigenous-informed research to address systemic oppression.
