Abstract
The Alva Myrdal Centre for Nuclear Disarmament was established at Uppsala University in Sweden in 2021. Alva Myrdal, a Swedish female diplomat, was a pioneer in nuclear disarmament and was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1982 for her efforts. She advocated for disarmament by emphasizing the importance of nuclear divestment and redirecting military expenditures towards sustainable development and social issues. Myrdal also sought to engage the public and encourage social activism, leading to the emergence of the Nuclear Freeze campaign in the 1980s. Her work remains relevant today, particularly in addressing power imbalances and the colonial past in disarmament negotiations. This book provides insights into Myrdal's contributions and will be useful for those interested in nuclear disarmament and feminist foreign policy. [Extracted from the article]
