Abstract

The article presents a conversation between theologian Rowan Williams and author Bonnie Thurston on theologian Thomas Merton as a catalyst for friendship. Topics discussed include their views on Benedictine and Cistercian traditions, the role of spiritual friendship in the centrality of friendship to followers such as Merton and views on Merton's face-to-face encounters with friends at the Hermitage.
