Abstract

This bibliography compiles a wide range of scholarly books, book chapters, and periodical articles focused on the intersections of dance and the Black body, highlighting key figures, cultural movements, and historical contexts. It includes studies on influential Black dancers and choreographers such as Josephine Baker, Katherine Dunham, Pearl Primus, and Misty Copeland, as well as explorations of dance forms like jazz, tap, ballroom, and Caribbean diasporic dances. The resources address themes of race, gender, sexuality, performance, and cultural identity within African American and Black diasporic dance traditions from the early 20th century to contemporary times. This collection serves as a foundational reference for researchers examining the cultural, political, and artistic significance of Black dance and embodiment.
