Abstract

The article focuses on a letter written by David Thompson, who was appointed as the Astronomer and Surveyor for the International Boundary Commission between 1812 and 1834. In the letter dated February 21, 1817, Thompson informs Sir Francis Gore of his role in determining the latitude and longitude of a location, as well as his intention to meet with American commissioners to settle boundary lines. He offers his services to establish true Meridian Lines along the St. Lawrence River, emphasizing the precision required for such work and suggesting that the costs for the mechanical aspects would be minimal. Thompson expresses his willingness to assist with any other tasks that do not interfere with his primary responsibilities. [Extracted from the article]
