Abstract

This article focuses on the life and legacy of Annie Oakley, born Phoebe Ann Moses, who rose from a poverty-stricken childhood in Ohio to become a renowned American sharpshooter and icon of the Wild West. Oakley gained fame through her exceptional shooting skills, notably after defeating marksman Frank Butler and later joining Buffalo Bill's Wild West show, where she was nicknamed "Little Sure Shot" by the Lakota Sioux leader Sitting Bull. Beyond her entertainment career, she advocated for women's empowerment by teaching thousands of women to shoot and proposing female military regiments, though she did not support women's suffrage. Oakley's life inspired numerous theatrical and film portrayals, and her legacy endures as a pioneering figure in American history.
