Abstract
The article introduces a suite of papers focused on reevaluating Plato’s legacy in education, highlighting a recent resurgence of scholarly interest in his educational philosophy. Central to this discussion is Mark Jonas and Yoshiaki Nakazawa’s book *A Platonic Theory of Moral Education: Cultivating Virtue in Contemporary Democratic Classrooms*, which challenges traditional interpretations of Plato as an intellectualist and anti-democrat, arguing instead that his moral education theory—based on dialogue, habituation, and transformative epiphanies—is relevant and applicable to modern democratic classrooms. The suite also includes diverse perspectives that expand, critique, or complement Jonas and Nakazawa’s views, addressing Plato’s methods, the role of virtue, and comparisons with Aristotelian approaches. Collectively, these contributions provide a comprehensive overview of contemporary debates on Plato’s educational philosophy and its significance for current educational theory and practice.
