Abstract
"The Precious Summary: A History of the Mongols from Chinggis Khan to the Qing Dynasty" is a Mongolian chronicle written by Sagang Sechen in 1662. It was widely read and translated into Manchu and Chinese by order of the Qianlong Emperor, making it the most widespread and well-known Mongolian historical work in the Qing Empire. The chronicle was also the first Mongolian historical work to be known in Europe, with a German translation published in 1829. Johan Elverskog has recently translated the chronicle into English, providing annotations and introductions to help readers understand the cultural and historical context. The translation is well-done, although there are some minor errors in the annotation apparatus. Overall, this translation will serve as a standard reference for the Erdeni-yin tobci for years to come. [Extracted from the article]
