Abstract
The article focuses on Roy Lichtenstein, a New York-born artist from a well-to-do German-Jewish family who became a key figure in the pop art movement starting in 1960. Pop art, which also included artists like Andy Warhol and James Rosenquist, used popular and commercial culture as its themes, with Lichtenstein known for his oversized comic-strip style paintings. His 1962 work "Masterpiece" sold for $165 million in 2017, reflecting the lasting value of his art. Lichtenstein was married three times, had two sons, and passed away in 1997 at age 73.
