Abstract
The Inwardness of Things examines Joseph Conrad as a modern voice in the enduring philosophical debate between poetry and philosophy, focusing on his poetic approach to truth as found in lived experience, language, and the external world. The book analyzes Conrad's private letters and fiction to reveal how he encouraged fellow writers to explore their own inward experiences and crafted narrative techniques that evoke shared understanding, while critiquing abstract truth-seeking. Situating Conrad within his colonial, Victorian, Polish Romantic, and cosmopolitan contexts, the study highlights his engagement with ethical, political, and global questions, arguing for the lasting relevance of his artistic vision.
